In Koroit, Victoria, a defenseless koala was subjected to an act of cruelty so severe it has shocked an entire community.

The animal was tied to a tow ball and dragged through town, suffering unimaginable injuries before being abandoned.
Rescuers found the koala critically wounded. Despite urgent veterinary care, the injuries were too severe — and the koala had to be euthanized.

This was not an accident. It was a deliberate act.

Wildlife rescuers described the suffering as “unfathomable.” Conservation groups have condemned the attack, and a suspect has reportedly been identified — yet no charges have been confirmed.

Koalas are already a vulnerable species, with fewer than 80,000 remaining in the wild. Acts like this are not just cruelty — they are a threat to a species already under pressure.

to fully investigate this crime, press charges, and ensure strong penalties for those responsible, as well as strengthen protections to prevent future acts of cruelty.
