The Clark County community—and animal lovers everywhere—were horrified by a recent video showing the abuse of a kitten in Las Vegas. The man seen in the video, Angel Ayala, has been arrested and is facing charges of animal cruelty. But many of us are left asking: Will the punishment truly fit the crime?

We’re calling on the Clark County District Attorney’s Office to prosecute this case to the fullest extent of the law, including under the new protections of Reba’s Law, which allows for harsher penalties in cases where an animal is used to threaten or terrorize others. This law was passed to make sure cruelty isn’t minimized or dismissed—and this case must be treated with the seriousness it deserves.

Animal cruelty isn’t just heartbreaking—it’s often a red flag for future violence. Prosecuting these cases strongly helps prevent further harm to both animals and people. District Attorney Steve Wolfson has stated he takes these cases seriously and is personally monitoring the prosecution. Now we ask him to follow through with meaningful consequences that reflect the severity of the abuse captured on video.

The community has spoken out. Now it’s time for the justice system to act. We also call on Nevada lawmakers and Clark County leaders to continue strengthening animal welfare laws, enforcement tools, and public education on cruelty prevention.
