Twenty-one dogs were rescued from horrific conditions in a home in Coyle, Oklahoma. According to the Humane Society of Tulsa, the animals were found living among rodents, their own feces, and urine. These were not just unsanitary conditions — they were dangerous and cruel.

Thanks to quick action by the Humane Society, the dogs are now safe and receiving care. But their suffering must not be ignored. This is now part of a criminal investigation, and the community has a right to demand that the case is taken seriously.

Too often, animal cruelty cases are quietly resolved without real accountability. That cannot happen here. The public must send a message that this kind of neglect has consequences — and that animals in Oklahoma deserve protection.

We call on the Logan County Sheriff’s Office and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to:

• Fully investigate this case
• File appropriate charges if laws were broken
• Ensure the individual(s) responsible are not allowed to harm animals again
• Work with local agencies to strengthen enforcement of animal welfare laws

These dogs endured conditions no living creature should face. Oklahoma has animal protection laws on the books — now we need to see them enforced.
