Stephanie should be alive today. 

I had to do what no parent should ever have to. I had to bury my daughter.

On February 23, 2026, I received the phone call every parent dreads. Stephanie had been brutally stabbed to death at a Fairfax County bus stop in broad daylight. 

The man charged with her murder, Abdul Jalloh, an illegal immigrant, was no stranger to the criminal justice system. More than 30 arrests. More than 40 criminal charges, including rape, multiple malicious woundings, assaults, and prior stabbing incidents. And yet, again and again, Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano let him walk.

Thirty times the system had a chance to stop him. Thirty times. 

I think about that every single day.

This was not an unavoidable tragedy. It was the predictable consequence of decisions made by Descano.

Stephanie's case is not an isolated failure. Under Descano's leadership, Fairfax County has repeatedly seen dangerous offenders released, despite serious charges and lengthy criminal histories, while public safety took a back seat.

Descano's campaigns have been bankrolled by anti-police activists and donors like George Soros. Descano had a written policy of protecting criminal illegal immigrants from consequences on his campaign website. Descano is more interested in appeasing his activist donors and ideological purity than practical pragmatism that would have protected Stephanie.

Fairfax County is not alone. Across the country, prosecutors have adopted the same playbook, reducing charges, clearing records, and prioritizing ideology over public safety. The names change. The cities change. The victims change. But the pattern is the same. Stephanie's story is a window into what happens when prosecutors stop doing their jobs. This petition is about Fairfax County. But the fight is everywhere.

Stephanie cannot speak for herself anymore. So I am.

Please sign this petition and demand that Steve Descano be removed from office. No family should go through what mine has gone through.

Every family in Fairfax County deserves better. Stephanie deserved better.
