Support Justice for Sixties Scoop Survivors
Between 1951 and 1991, it is estimated that up to 30,000 First Nations, Métis, and Inuit children were removed from their families, communities, and cultures through what is now known as the Sixties Scoop.
Many children were placed with non-Indigenous families across Canada, the United States, and around the world. They lost their language, culture, identity, family connections, and, for many, the opportunity to grow up knowing who they were and where they came from. The impacts of the Sixties Scoop continue to be felt by survivors, their children, their grandchildren, and Indigenous communities today.
Today, many Manitoba Sixties Scoop survivors continue to seek justice, accountability, and meaningful recognition of the harms they experienced. Survivors are exploring legal options, including the possibility of a class action lawsuit in Manitoba, and are calling for public support as they move forward.
We Call On
The Government of Manitoba to engage respectfully with Sixties Scoop survivors, recognize their experiences, and work toward fair and meaningful resolution of their outstanding concerns.
