"JUSTICE for SAMOAN Hit & Run Victim, TUUAU FAASAVALU & Corrupt Police Investigation!"
The issue
Tuuau Faasavalu or Ituau, was found lying on the side of the road on Maali Street, Vaitele in the early hours of Wednesday 21 April 2021 and was declared dead on arrival when he was rushed to the Tupua Tamasese Meaole National Hospital (TTM) at Moto'otua, Apia.
Tuuau's parents, Fala and his wife Rosie Maletino are still searching for answers following the tragic death of their son, appealing to the public for information so they can have closure.
But almost 3 years have passed, and the Family, and witnesses who have shared or presented their statements to the Samoan Police, have been left scratching their heads, with claims much of that information, deemed to have disappeared or ignored by the authorities.
To add salt to injury, a member of the Samoan Parliament has been central to various witness accounts as been the culprit, or rumours to that effect, thus making this case a Political spectacle, with the Police investigation either stalled, at best, or deeply corrupted at worse.
This was exasperated recently when a then unknown young man, who claimed to have witnessed the incident, faced media and shared his story - when He realised, the police treated him with disdain, and ignored his witness accounts in addition, claims of a Police cover up !!
A story riddled with innuendos, and instead of police acting on his evidence, they instead turned him into an informant, to aid and abet their raids on drugs, ice and marijuana - with Tuuau, the victim, now in the background.
The case has galvanised public opinion, on corruption within the Police force, so much so, that the Government will now bring in overseas experts, to take over the investigation, pending the Attorney General advice to cabinet.
