Justice for Roxanne Louie

Justice for Roxanne Louie
The Issue
On January 11 of 2015, Grace Robotti savagely and without excuse ended the life of the mother of her Great-grandson, Roxanne Louie. She worked with family members to cover up what she had done. After her “rage” had abated, she covered up her crime by not obtaining medical help, which may have saved Roxanne’s life, and then, by clear and calculated actions, disposed of Roxanne and anything else that could point to the vicious murder. She also ensured that Roxanne’s family and Osoyoos Indian Band staff were not able to see to her son and to offer any help he needed as he was present when this murder took place, mere feet away. Grace stated in her published statements that she did not want Roxanne’s mother to have the child upon Roxanne’s death and took concrete steps to prevent that. The estrangement from the maternal family was Grace Robotti's intention all along, to not have her great-grandson live on a reserve.
She then reported Roxanne missing, stating she was concerned. The events of that night will never be truly known as the only version is that given in court by Grace Robotti and her brother who helped her to cover up the crime. We only know that Roxanne was beaten with a crowbar and struck 26 times around her head and may or may not have been alive when she was dumped in a remote area.
Those of us who loved and supported Roxanne shared her fear of violence by the Robotti family over time, threats and constant failed attempts to have her child taken from her were her with her constantly. Conversations were had with her about those fears the very night before her death.
Grace Robotti was found guilty of 2nd degree Murder and was given a sentence of life with the possibility of parole after 10 years in 2017. She was granted an escorted temporary absence (ETA) in 2021 and then in 2022 was granted an ETA for community service, twice a week for 1 year. She has been housed in a minimum-security facility since March of 2022.
We learned, through the news, that Grace Robotti has been approved for parole and will be released into a community and facility which is unnamed.
Family and community are outraged at the circumstances that allowed Ms Robotti to make submissions while the family was not notified or given an opportunity to make submissions. This process has been patently unfair and discriminatory against the family of Roxanne Louie and the Okanagan Nation at large. The particulars of this gruesome event, as told by Robotti, show the callousness and lack of value for Roxanne’s life. Granting Ms Robotti’s parole in this manner based only on her own self serving submissions and behavior in a restricted environment shows the same disregard by the Parole Board of Canada. Her ability to garner such a mild sentence for the savagery of her actions was hard enough to swallow, it is outrageous that the consequences of her actions have been so minimized at this point
We, the undersigned demand that the Parole Board of Canada rescind the granting of any parole to Grace Robotti because of the lack of input from her family and community. A decision in this matter should be delayed until the submissions from family and community can be heard, recorded and considered.
