Justice for P’Nut🐿️ & Fred🦝, killed by NYSDEC
The Issue
We demand a full criminal and civil rights investigation, and accountability, for every single person involved in the recent NYSDEC (New York State Department of Environmental Conservation) raid on upstate NY animal sanctuary, P’Nut’s Freedom Farm, which led to P’Nut the Squirrel & Fred the Raccoon being killed by NYSDEC officers. News reports indicate that the civil rights of farm owners, Mr. & Mrs. Mark Longo, were violated during the raid.
P’Nut was killed, after the terrified rescue squirrel was seized, following a 5-hour raid at the farm, because P’Nut allegedly bit 2 investigators on the hand, so they killed P’Nut to test it for rabies. P’Nut was rescued as a baby, lived indoors for 7 years and had no signs of rabies. Fred didn’t bite anyone and was killed out of spite and cruelty, less than 48 hours after the Ruby Ridge-style raid.
The Longos started a fundraiser to pay for a lawyer to help them get the beloved animals back, but the state had already executed the defenseless creatures.P’Nut became a social media sensation and donations enabled Mark Longo to start an animal rescue, which eventually expanded to the farm, where the Longos care for 350 animals, including horses, llamas, etc. NYSDEC actually killed the Longos’ source of income, when they executed P’Nut & Fred. The farm is an educational facility and the animals are used to bring joy to the lives of suffering humans, especially children.
This level of unchecked government overreach and abuse cannot, and will not, go unchallenged. We demand that Interim Commissioner Sean Mahar be fired, immediately, along with every other person involved, and the judge who signed the search warrant be removed from the bench.
We demand accountability, criminal charges for animal cruelty, restitution , a full Civil Rights Office investigation, for the potential violation of the civil rights of Mark Longo and his wife, who was questioned by law enforcement about her immigration status, during the raid. The Longos were detained outside for 5 hours and were not allowed to use the bathroom, in their own home, without a police escort to and from the bathroom.
The Longos were prevented from caring for any animals during the raid, in another act of animal cruelty by NYSDEC, against the 350 animals at the farm.
We demand the results of the investigation, which should be conducted by the NY State Attorney General’s Office & NY Governor Kathy Hochul, be made public, including the full names of every person involved. The public has a right to know, so these people can’t get jobs involving the public trust, ever again.
NYSDEC is a taxpayer-funded organization that is accountable to the people of New York. We, the People, of the United States of America, will NOT be governed by tyrants and bureaucrats. This is a government BY the people, FOR the people.
