Children and Young People Living for Peace (CYPLP) started this petition to Abuja Commissioner of police (Babaji Sunday) and

An angelic voice has fallen to domestic violence. In this case, it is Osinachi Nwachukwu, a popular Nigerian gospel singer, whose song brought relief and joy to many. But her death must count. Osinachi Nwachukwu died after she was brutalized and battered by her husband, according to her family, friends, and colleagues. This is tragic and we want justice to reign.

The police have arrested her husband, Peter Nwachukwu in connection to the death of his wife, according to media reports.

We're calling on you to sign this petition calling on the Commissioner of Police FCT Police Command to ensure that he faces the full wrath of the law for this crime if found guilty.

Justice for Osinachi is Justice for every Nigerian woman who has ever been a victim of domestic violence and that is why we're calling for the "ANTI-DOMESTIC ABUSE ACT. The legislation will as a matter of urgency ensure that there is funding for specific domestic abuse services including gender desks at police stations across the country.

The "Domestic Abuse Act" will also include additional funding for gender desks at police stations across the country. Mandate the National Orientation Agency to begin, intensify and continue mass communication of messages, especially in local dialects across the available media platforms geared at stemming the menace of domestic violence and abuse nationwide.

Being a woman and growing up as a girl in Nigeria is challenging from complicated cycles of abuse to discrimination socially, culturally, religiously, traditionally, and worst above all politically.  Gender discrimination is symbolic of domestic violence where wives(women) are battered, victimized, and beaten to death by their husbands(men) such as  Osinachi Nwachukwu, who had lived with domestic abuse for many years.  While domestic violence occurs from both gender,  the scale of the violation is highly tilted toward women as it often starts small and gravitates uncontrollably especially when victims keep quiet about it. Such violation can lead to death while the violator(s) escape justice. Stopping it at the smallest stage remains a wise choice by speaking up or walking away for safety first.

But holding violators of domestic violence and abuse in Nigeria to account is an option and not just an option but the right way to go, so it can serve as a deterrent to others.

By this petition, we hold Nigeria Government, its Executive, and legislative arms into account for the following demands -

1. Thorough investigation into the death of Osinachi Nwachukwu and anyone found wanting, should be charged to the competent court of law for speedy trial and justice.

2.  Begin the process of considering and legislating "The Domestic Abuse Act"

3. Commission appropriate support for domestic abuse victims and their "CHILDREN" in safe accommodation to meet their needs. This includes funding specific domestic abuse services to meet the need of women.

Please sign and share this petition to prevent and protect the next woman from domestic violence and abuse, even yourself too.

Domestic abuse is a high prevalence, high HARM form of Violence Against Women and Girls(VAWG). Its scale and impact warrant a more dedicated strategy to save all for last.
