Urgent Demand for CBI Investigation into the Suspicious Death of MBA Student Mrutyunjaya Bedanta at Sri Sri University, Cuttack, Odisha.

We, the Odisha Chhatra Sangathan, express our deep anguish and concern over the highly suspicious death of Mrutyunjaya Bedanta, son of Hemant Bedanta, a final-year MBA student of Sri Sri University, Cuttack, Odisha.

Mrutyunjaya Bedanta was a resident of Barajodi village under Khaira Police Station in Balasore district. On the night of 04/12/2025 at around 10:00 PM, he was found in an abnormal and seriously injured condition inside the hostel premises of the university. Instead of following transparent and lawful procedures, the college authorities hurriedly shifted him to Ashwini Hospital, Cuttack, where doctors declared him dead.

After the family members reached the hospital, it is alleged that the college authorities tried to force them not to conduct a post-mortem examination. The family members observed severe injury marks on his face and hands along with blood stains, which raised grave suspicion of foul play and possible murder.

It is important to note that Mrutyunjaya Bedanta was a bright and promising student who had already secured a job at IDFC Bank in an HR position, clearly ruling out any reason for self-harm.

Even more disturbing are the allegations that the college authorities attempted to suppress the incident by influencing television media, print media, and social media, while also pressuring the grieving family to remain silent.

Such actions severely undermine public trust in educational institutions and point toward a systematic attempt to conceal the truth.

Our Demands

We, along with Odisha Chhatra Sangathan, strongly demand that the Government of Odisha take immediate and decisive action by:

  • Transferring the investigation of Mrutyunjaya Bedanta’s death to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)
  • Conducting a thorough examination of call detail records (CDR)
  • Providing adequate compensation to the bereaved family
  • Initiating strict legal action against the responsible college authorities and individuals involved in suppression or negligence.

This is not just the death of one student—it is a question of student safety, institutional accountability, and justice. If such incidents are ignored, it sets a dangerous precedent for thousands of students across the state and the country.

We urge the authorities to act immediately, ensure transparency, and deliver justice to Mrutyunjaya Bedanta and his family.

Justice delayed is justice denied.
