Earlier this year, my beautiful sister Maryam Hamka went missing and to date her disappearance and suspected murder remain a mystery. Now, the man who allegedly helped her ex-boyfriend cover up a crime scene has been granted bail despite police opposition.

I’m calling for change - no bail for the accused involved in alleged murder cases if they don’t reveal the location of the victim’s body.

Our family is completely heartbroken. At the very least, we deserve to know what happened to her. The man who is charged with assisting her ex-boyfriend in allegedly killing my sister, is believed to have the answers by the police. Yet, he is allowed to roam free and possibly tamper with evidence and go back to my sister’s body.

The justice system is failing the women in our country. Women are dying because the justice system isn’t equipped to deal with the ongoing patterns of abuse and coercive control. The system is stacked against victims and survivors.
