Justice for Kyle David Budimir — Demand Accountability from White County Sheriff's Department

On August 1, 2025, at approximately 3:45 AM, Kyle David Budimir tragically lost his life on Highway 16 near Monon, Indiana—not because of a criminal act, but because of a failure in duty by those sworn to protect and serve.

Kyle was simply trying to ensure the safety of a friend walking along the dark highway. After being stopped and cleared by one officer, he continued on his way. However, another officer escalated the situation over a bicycle light—despite Kyle having one. What followed was a chaotic and unnecessary confrontation that ended with Kyle being restrained on the highway itself.

As a vehicle approached at high speed, both officers jumped out of the way, leaving Kyle vulnerable and lying in the road. The car struck him, and Kyle succumbed to his injuries. The officers prioritized their own safety and failed to protect Kyle in the most critical moment.

To make matters worse, Kyle’s family  was not informed by law enforcement. Kyle's mother had  to seek out answers herself, visiting the jail a day and a half later just to learn what had happened. The lack of communication and compassion shown to Kyle’s family is unacceptable.

We demand:
- A full, independent investigation into the actions of the White County Sheriff’s Department that night.
- Public release of body cam footage and all incident reports.
- Policy reforms to ensure officers prioritize civilian safety during confrontations.
- Mandatory training on de-escalation and duty of care.
- A formal apology to Kyle’s family and public acknowledgment of the department’s failures.

Kyle’s death was preventable. This petition is not just about justice for him—it’s about making sure no other family has to endure this kind of loss and silence. The motto “Protect and Serve” must mean something. It’s time to hold law enforcement accountable.

Please sign and share. Let Kyle’s story be heard. Let change begin.
