The Issue

Anti-racism campaigner Kwabena Devonish is facing charges under the Terrorism Act for allegedly “inviting support” for a proscribed organisation during a speech made at a pro-Palestine demonstration in Cardiff in November 2023. The use of terrorism legislation to police political speech is a threat to everyone campaigning for justice for the Palestinians.

This case is a clear attempt to intimidate the Palestine solidarity movement and silence voices demanding Israel is held accountable for war crimes and genocide. It is designed to clamp down on discussion about events in Gaza and the disaster of war overtaking the wider region. Instead of taking action to halt the flow of weapons from Britain to Israel, as the International Court of Justice has demanded, the British state has chosen to push forward with a politically-motivated prosecution.

Kwabena is an activist who is committed to campaigning against racism and injustice. In August 2024, she took an active role in organising multi-ethnic and multi-faith unity rallies in Cardiff, helping to bring communities together in solidarity against racist hate and violence by the far-right.

Prosecuting Kwabena won’t make Britain a safer place.

Stop the political trials - No to terror charges for Palestine solidarity activists.
