Justice for Kean University Dance Team

Justice for Kean University Dance Team
The Issue
The Kean University Dance Team is a nationally competitive, student-run collegiate dance team that proudly represents Kean University at athletic events, campus programs, and national competitions. Our team is built on discipline, leadership, academic accountability, and a deep love for dance.
Recently, our team was suspended for two semesters, preventing us from competing at nationals until 2028. This decision was made without prior formal warning, without clear communication, and without offering restorative solutions. As students, we were never given the opportunity to correct concerns before facing extreme consequences.
Our team operates with zero university funding. We fundraise, pay out of pocket, maintain academic standards, and dedicate countless hours to representing Kean University with pride. Despite limited resources and restrictive guidelines, we have achieved national recognition placing 4th in the nation and 2nd in our region.
This suspension affects far more than competition. It impacts our mental health, finances, recruitment, and sense of community. Flights, hotels, competition fees, and months of preparation have already been invested. More importantly, this team is a safe space, support system, and family for so many students.
We are not asking for special treatment we are asking for fairness, transparency, and restorative justice. We want accountability paired with education, communication, and growth not punishment that erases years of work.
We do not know if this petition will change the outcome, but we believe it is important to try. Our voices deserve to be heard, and our efforts deserve to matter. This team has poured everything into building something positive, competitive, and meaningful and we are not ready to give up.
Please stand with us. Sign and share this petition to support the Kean University Dance Team. Even if change feels uncertain, trying is better than staying silent. Let us dance.
