After Jordan Chiles competed the individual floor exercise her place was 5th. However, her coaches appealed her score to get full points for her leap pass. Her appeal won, moving her to 3rd place! The previous 3rd place, Ana Barbosu, moved to 4th leaving her disappointed and sad, but she understood the Jordan was rightfully in 3rd. When Jordan found out she would be getting a medal, the pure excitement and happiness is something never to forget. After the Olympics Jordan Chiles received much hate and racism. People kept telling Jordan, that she didn’t deserve 3rd place because she is black and that Ana deserves it more only due to her being white. 

Then a week after the Olympics, the Court of Arbitration filed an appeal to the International Olympic Committee(IOC) to strip Jordan of her medal. Their reasoning was because Jordan’s coaches filed her appeal 4 seconds too late. Their appeal was a success, bumping Ana Barbosu back into 3rd and Jordan Chiles into 5th. USA Gymnastics(USAG) had evidence that Jordan’s appeal was on time, so they also made an appeal, but the IOC declined it. It was a judging mistake that even put Jordan in 5th place, instead of 3rd. Therefore because she most likely didn’t violate the 1 minute rule for appeals, there is no reason why her medal is gone. Ana Barbosu and Jordan Chiles even agreed on sharing 3rd place, but that was declined too. 

Normally when a medal is taken away after a competition, it is because of something the athlete did. Such as, steroids, cheating, or lying about their age. Jordan did none of this, only appeal to get the correct score she deserved! So please, sign this petition to draw awareness to Jordan Chile’s wrongfully taken, Olympic Bronze Medal!
