Justice For Ivy
The Issue
Aug 11, 2024 Update:
In case you haven't heard, Ivy was found deceased in the garage in the early morning hours of Friday August 9th. Ivy was found where the volunteer search & rescue K9 alerted to on Wednesday 8/8. If the community hadn't taken steps such as initially searching for Ivy, signing this petition to put pressure on the city, bringing in the volunteer search and rescue team who showed interest in the garage, and ultimately if it weren't for the brave community member that found Ivy in the garage early Friday morning, we believe that Ivy would still be in the garage.
Thanks to these community efforts, Ivy can now be put to rest, and the grieving process can start.
Going forward, our efforts will be focused on making sure a senseless tragedy like this never happens again. With that being said, we'd like to introduce "Ivy's Law". Ivy's Law aims to ensure that all service dogs, emotional support dogs, and pet dogs, receive the same rescue efforts that their human counterparts do after an emergency. This is not just a plea for equality or justice, but a call for basic compassion and humanity.

The community has really come together to rally behind Ivy and her owner Rose. Rose doesn't want a GoFundMe, all she wants is the community to continue supporting and fighting for her. For those asking about a new guide dog, Leader Dog, where Rose got Ivy, will provide Rose with another guide dog free of charge when she's ready. If you'd like to make a donation to them in Ivy's name I'm sure it would be appreciated. LeaderDog.Org is their website.
Please continue to share and sign these petitions until lasting positive changes have been made. This petition will now be used to show support for a new bill called "Ivy's Law" that will outline some form of required rescue efforts in emergencies to at least service dogs, if not all pets. As we do more research on current laws and policies & procedures both in NM, and in other states, we'll have a better idea of what the bill will entail. I'll make an update here when that happens.
There will be a memorial service for Ivy at El Oso Grande Park once Rose gets her ashes back. In the meantime, there's a memorial set up at the home if you'd like to stop by to show support. The address is 10300 Gutierrez Rd NE
August 6th, 2024:
Demand Albuquerque City Officials to Search Garage For Missing Service Dog Ivy
To our respected Albuquerque City Officials, it's personal to us. Our community ardently came together in a heartfelt effort to support Ivy's vision-impaired owner, Rose, following a disastrous, yet preventable water main explosion causing partial collapse of her residence on July 28th, 2024. We urgently feel the need to share the story of Ivy, a selfless guide dog, who is believed to be trapped under the rubble in the garage of the damaged property at 10300 Gutierrez Rd NE. The community is calling on action from the City of Albuquerque after they neglected to repair a known issue that the public affairs manager with the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority (ABCWUA), says dates back roughly 40 years.
It has been over ten trying days, and the garage remains unexplored by the city's officials. Despite our concerted attempts to elicit the city's cooperation, we hit a wall - an unyielding denial to let a trained Search and Rescue detection dog team conduct the search. The team, equipped to carry out such rescue missions, could potentially locate Ivy - an idea that was met with an unexplained resistance.
We reason, would the response have been different, more urgent, if a person were feared trapped instead? Isn't Ivy's life, dutifully dedicated to assisting her human as an instrumental support system, just as crucial? As a community, we're collectively urging the city authorities to reconsider the gravity of the issue.
Our request is genuine and straightforward; we urge you to authorize a comprehensive search of the garage at 10300 Gutierrez Rd NE. This is not merely a search for a missing dog - it is an appeal to uphold the sentiment of humanity, respect for an animal's life, and the upholding of a visually impaired citizen's right to safety and support. Please, help Ivy. End the agony and uncertainty for Rose, who relies on Ivy and understandably desperately longs for her safe return. Give a nod to our collective plea and save Ivy. Sign this petition - urge the City of Albuquerque to act now.
