The Issue

Pets are family. For many of us, they are our closest companions, our protectors, and our daily source of joy. So when a pet passes, we deserve to say goodbye with dignity and care.

That trust was broken for dozens of families who turned to Angel Paws Pet Cremation in San Marcos, California. After the business abruptly closed, pet owners learned that their animals' remains had not been treated with respect. Some never received ashes. Others now fear the ashes they were given may not even belong to their pets.

Worse still, it was revealed that the property owner cremated an estimated 4,000 pounds of decomposed remains without notifying families or giving them the chance to say goodbye. These ashes were scattered at sea without consent.

This is heartbreaking. It is also unacceptable.

This petition calls on local and state authorities in San Diego County to take immediate action:

  • Fully investigate the handling of pet remains by both the former business owner and the property owner
  • Provide support and transparency for the families impacted
  • Introduce or strengthen laws to regulate pet crematoriums and protect grieving families from abuse or neglect

For the families who lost not just their pets, but the chance to honor them properly, this is about more than ashes. It is about trust, dignity, and justice.

Sign this petition if you believe pets deserve respect in life and in death — and so do the people who loved them.
