I’m Martha Silva, the mother of Emmanuel Baltazar: the man who was murdered on Aug 22, 2023 at Las Tunas beach in Malibu. It’s been over a year since my son’s death, and we have yet to see any productive progress in his case. By signing this petition you are supporting and helping Emmanuel’s case. We are asking that Thania Ruano— Emmanuel’s estranged wife and murderer— be sentenced to life in prison for her senseless and selfish actions. But we cannot have a chance of that without getting the Special Circumstances applied to Emmanuel’s case. What is the Special Circumstances? California Penal Code 190.2 PC is the statue that explains when someone can be held accountable for murder with special circumstances, known as “capital murder.” Simply put, this is an aggravated type of murder that carries life in prison without the possibility of parole. 
We have previously submitted a letter to former DA, George Gascon’s office but we were denied. Under the premise that Thania Ruano is a woman, young, and with no criminal record: therefore she has her whole life ahead of her and should not spend it incarcerated. 
It is completely unjust that this is the explanation we received, when Thania Ruano and Emmanuel were the same age at the time of the murder, and that he was also lured to the beach under a false identity. How is it fair that Thania can walk away with a slap on the wrist, when my son also had his entire life ahead of him? The point of this isn’t about vengeance, or revenge. It’s about Justice for Emmanuel, that’s all I’ve ever wanted. Please sign this petition and help make a difference in Emmanuel’s case.
