First of all, thank you SO MUCH to everyone that has shared, signed and donated to this petition. It means so much to Coco and her owner during this extremely difficult time.
Despite coming this far, we have so much more to do in order to try and get justice for Coco. The reality is that there is a good chance her murderer may get little to no jail time. This is where your help comes in.
Here are a couple of additional ways you can help:
- Write a letter to the judge of the case. You can write a letter and submit it to justice4coco@gmail.com. All letters received will be sent to the judge assigned to the case. The more letters there are, the more the judge will know the depth of public support for maximum punishment when it comes to the sentencing phase.
- Keep sharing the story and the petition. This may not make an impact for the grand jury trial, but national/global awareness of the story and clear demands for justice will let the judge know this is important to so many people around the world. Coco was defenseless, and we need to be her voice.
- If you know of any pro-bono resources (animal law clinics, animal rights organizations, etc.) that will help the DA with research, we could potentially find some laws that may allow us to ask for a harsher penalty. Please send any info to justice4coco@gmail.com. As of now, the max penalty we know of is a $2,500 fine and/or one year of jail time. We all know that this is not enough for what Coco suffered. With the DA balancing multiple cases, any additional research resources or animal abuse case expertise could really make an impact.
- If you are aware of any prior criminal convictions by Phillip Savelli in any location (he may have lived in other states), or if you know of any additional abuse toward animals or humans he may have committed that can be proven, please email justice4coco@gmail.com. As most of you know, animal abuse to this extent is often a gateway to future abuse and violence toward animals, as well as humans. If you wish to report anything anonymously, you can go to justiceforcoco.org and use the Contact Us form (just omit your name and email), but please be aware anonymous information must be able to be verified. If you submit something anonymously, this prevents any potential for important follow up questions. If Coco's murderer has done something like this before, it's important for the DA to be aware because it could impact the sentencing phase.
- Lastly, if you are an attorney that can help tenants currently renting from Coco's murderer get out of their lease or you are someone with extensive knowledge on the topic, please reach out to contact@justiceforcoco.org. These tenants are currently living in fear because he has access to their homes, and they are animal owners.
All of the above information can also be found at justiceforcoco.org. As a reminder, please do not include violent comments or death threats in any communications regarding the case. We are all shocked and appalled by the details of the case, but it is important to focus efforts on positively impacting the case.
As for the case, the Cuyahoga County Clerk of Courts has added case number BO-21-5047BO to the system, but not all of the information is available yet. To check for updates, you can go to https://cpdocket.cp.cuyahogacounty.us/Search.aspx and search by case or name under the Criminal Search section.
We all signed this petition because we want to see Coco's killer punished to the fullest extent of the law. A defenseless and trusting puppy should never have to endure what Coco and her owner went through. If you are able to contribute by doing any of the items above or even if you simply signed and shared the petition, please know that Coco's family is extremely grateful for any support you have shown over the past few weeks.
Now, let's get #JusticeForCoco <3
