The Issue
Petition to Deny Parole for Louis Barrientes
To the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles,
I am writing to respectfully and urgently ask that parole be denied for Louis Barrientes whenever he becomes eligible for release. I also ask that this letter, along with any others submitted by the community and Cindy Cortinaz Diaz’s loved ones, remain permanently in his file for future parole reviews.
Louis Barrientes committed a brutal and intentional act of violence against Cindy Cortinaz Diaz. This was not an accident, nor was it a crime of passion. This was premeditated murder.
Cindy lost her life at his hands—literally. He killed her with his bare hands. The level of violence inflicted on her was beyond comprehension. After her death, he continued to desecrate her body, breaking every bone in her pelvic region postmortem. This alone shows the depth of cruelty and complete disregard for human life.
What followed makes this even more disturbing. After taking Cindy’s life, he drove around with her lifeless body, traveling to Fort Worth and back. Her body remained in that vehicle, discarded and treated without dignity.
The next morning, members of his own family saw Cindy’s mangled body in the passenger seat. They had reportedly heard her screams and cries for help the night before, yet no one intervened. No one called for help until it was too late.
Cindy’s life mattered. Her family continues to live with the pain, trauma, and devastation caused by this crime. The brutality of this murder demonstrates that Louis Barrientes poses a severe and ongoing danger to society.
Parole is a privilege, not a right. Releasing someone capable of such calculated violence would not honor Cindy’s memory, nor would it protect future victims.
We ask that the Board consider the severity, cruelty, and lasting impact of this crime and deny parole in the interest of justice, public safety, and the memory of Cindy Cortinaz Diaz.
Keep these letters on record permanently. Let Cindy’s voice continue to be heard through those who love her.
Justice for Cindy Cortinaz Diaz.
Sincerely,
