Justice for Boone Against the Robot Overlord
The Issue
In Greenville Counties 21.2 million dollar program to get cleaning robots for schools, our school got two. So, of course, we named it. To differentiate them, Boone, the gigachad, tried to draw a dot on one of them, only for The Robot Overlord to shout at him, "STOP TOUCHING MY ROBOTS!" We don't know whether or not the dot was drawn, but if so, it was erased quickly.
As a dot made of erasable marker can be erased with a single swipe, and even a dot made of a non-erasable marker would likely have been a level 1 offense, which causes lunch detention or a warning, an ISS seems extremely excessive.
An in-school suspension could have far-reaching impacts on Boone's educational journey. Research shows that suspensions—even in-school—can negatively affect a child's academic performance (Los Angeles Times, 2020). These disciplinary actions can lead to a feeling of ostracization among young students, which in turn can decrease their love for learning and confidence in their capabilities.
Let's come together to request that the school reconsider their stance on Boone’s situation. We urge his school to evaluate the context of the action and adopt a more balanced approach to this discipline. A child’s educational record should not be blemished by minor mistakes.
Please sign this petition to support Boone and advocate for fair and reasonable disciplinary measures in our schools.
Note: While this seems like a joke, this did actually happen and the "robot overlord" is just a funny name for him. I'm not sharing his name. Actually, you couldn't really find anybody in this petition's real identity even with Google. Unless you're Rainbolt. Then you can.
