The Issue

Bandit was not just a dog. He was family.

On December 9 in Truckee, California, someone fired a gun into a family’s home. Bandit, a beloved family dog who was days away from celebrating his birthday and Christmas with the people who loved him, was shot and killed inside the place where he should have been safest.

Bandit’s family is devastated. Like so many pets, he was a constant presence, a source of comfort, joy, and unconditional love. Losing him in such a violent and senseless way has left his family shaken and afraid in their own home. No family should ever have to experience this kind of trauma.

Truckee police have shared that the suspect was seen in the neighborhood multiple times before the shooting and is still being sought. Bandit’s family has spoken out, asking for help and accountability, saying they do not feel safe until this person is found and held responsible.

We are calling on the Truckee Police Department to continue prioritizing this investigation, on the Nevada County CA District Attorney to pursue appropriate charges, and on local leaders in the Town of Truckee to treat this case with the seriousness it deserves. Acts of violence against animals must never be dismissed or minimized.

Justice for Bandit means accountability. It means sending a clear message that cruelty and reckless violence will not be tolerated in our community. It also means protecting other families from experiencing the same heartbreak and fear.

Please sign this petition to stand with Bandit’s family and demand justice. Bandit mattered. His life mattered. And his death must not be ignored.
