Anthony Shoukat, a young Pakistani, had recently relocated to Portugal from Sweden, carrying with him dreams of a bright future. He was an educated and gifted individual who had earned his master’s degree in Sweden and was in the process of completing his PhD in Germany. Anthony was known and respected in academic circles for his commitment and intellectual prowess. He also maintained a YouTube channel where he shared his experiences of life in Europe, providing inspiration and guidance to many.
Sadly, Anthony was brutally murdered in Porto, Portugal just a few days ago. The specifics of this horrific crime are still being investigated by law enforcement, but the impact of his loss is deeply felt. As the primary financial provider for his family, Anthony’s premature death has left his family in a state of profound grief and financial instability.
His bereaved family members are urgently appealing to the Portuguese government to ensure that those responsible for this horrific crime are swiftly brought to justice. Regrettably, this tragic incident is not an isolated case.
In 2021, another Pakistani, Syed Zeeshan Abbas, a father of two, was brutally murdered during a robbery at his mobile shop, and the culprits are still at large.
We question why the Portuguese Government and law enforcement agencies have been unable to apprehend the murderers.
Do the lives of immigrants not hold value in Portugal?
As immigrants, we are as human as anyone else, and as residents of this country, we deserve the same respect and protection as any Portuguese citizen. We live here, work diligently, pay our taxes, and contribute to society, yet we no longer feel safe.
We demand that law enforcement authorities prioritize the capture of the killers, so that we can regain our sense of security.
The loss of Anthony has left the Pakistani community in mourning, underscoring the urgent need for swift and decisive action to address violence and ensure the safety of people.
