Justice for Anne Gray and protection for her son, Gael
The Issue
On August 10, 2026, the community of Diaguitas in Vicuña, Chile, was shattered by the brutal murder of Anne Gray. Anne was an American citizen who spent the last decade building a vibrant life in Chile as a devoted educator and mother. She was stabbed to death near the home she had proudly purchased on her own immediately after taking her young son, Gael, to school.
While a suspect is in Chilean custody, questions about what occurred remain. True justice for Anne requires an exhaustive investigation into all potential pre-existing connections, digital trails, financial vulnerabilities, and domestic context surrounding this tragic event.
Anne's family was unable to prevent her body from being released to her ex-boyfriend; we urgently request that her ashes are returned to her maternal family in the United States so she can be honored according to her true wishes.
Most critically, we are fighting for the safety, stability, and wellbeing of Anne’s son, Gael, who holds dual U.S. and Chilean citizenship. Following this profound trauma, Gael is highly vulnerable. It is vital that his living situation is subjected to immediate and ongoing oversight by both international diplomatic channels and Chilean child protection services.Gael cannot be isolated during this time of grief. His current guardians must be held to the highest standard of accountability to ensure his well-being, his ongoing integration into his local school community, and his unhindered connection to his maternal family in the United States.
We, the undersigned, urgently call upon the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Embassy in Santiago, and the Chilean Government to:
- Return Anne's Remains to Her Family: Intervene to ensure that Anne Alexander Gray’s remains are legally released and returned to her biological family in the United States.
- Mandate Strict Guardian Oversight & Therapy: Order Servicio Nacional de Protección Especializada a la Niñez to enforce strict oversight of Gael’s current guardians, ensuring they actively enroll Gael in professional trauma therapy and psychological support.
- Protect Educational and Familial Stability: Guarantee that Gael remains safely connected to his established community and protect his fundamental right to unhindered communication and physical contact with his maternal family and loved ones in the United States.
- Direct the U.S. Embassy and the Chilean Ministerio Público to thoroughly investigate the perpetrator’s potential external ties, digital history, property disputes, or secondary motives before closing this case.
Anne poured her heart into her community in Chile while remaining deeply rooted in the United States. We now call on both nations to protect her memory, return her to her family, and secure a safe, transparent future for her son.
