The Issue

A Demand for Justice for Amshika.

We, the Mothers of Sri Lanka, representing 5 million Mothers, rise together in solidarity with the family of Amshika and demand immediate actions to provide justice for 15-year-old schoolgirl Amshika from Kotahena, who as per reports has tragically died by suicide after enduring sexual abuse by a teacher, and further humiliation at a private educational institute.

Her tragedy has exposed the systemic betrayal by the very institutions meant to protect our children here in Sri Lanka.

Her death is a wake-up call for the nation.

We are calling on the National Child Protection Authority (NCPA), Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Education, and all relevant authorities to take swift and concrete action to protect children and hold accountable those responsible for this heinous act.

We demand the following actions:

1. Immediate Suspension of the Accused Teacher

The male teacher accused of abusing this young girl must be immediately suspended from his position, pending investigation and court proceedings. Our children deserve to be safe in schools, and this someone with such a serious allegation against them should never be placed in a position where they have access to any child until the conclusion of all proceedings.

2. Full Investigation into the School and All Staff Involved

We demand a thorough and unbiased investigation into the actions of the school principal and any other staff who may have shielded or failed to act on the abuse.

There should be no tolerance for those who cover up or ignore these crimes.

3. Strict Enforcement of Child Protection Guidelines

We urge the NCPA to enforce its mandatory reporting guidelines, ensuring all child abuse cases are immediately reported to the authorities and that swift disciplinary actions are taken against any educator or administrator accused of abuse.

4. Protection for Victimized Children

Any victimized child and their family must be supported, not further victimized.

Schools must not isolate or label children who are victims of abuse, and they must receive the care and support they need to recover.

5. Zero Tolerance for Sexual Abuse in Schools, Institutes & Universities

We demand the implementation of a national zero-tolerance policy for sexual abuse within schools, institutes & universities, with immediate education and training for teachers and school officials on how to properly handle abuse cases.

6. Public Accountability

We demand public accountability for all those involved in covering up the abuse and for those who failed to protect this young girl. No institution or individual should be allowed to evade justice when it comes to the safety of our children.

This is a call for justice for beloved Amshi.

We will not stay silent. We cannot allow this to ever happen again.

The loss of Amshi's precious life is a tragedy that could have been prevented, and we must take action today to ensure no other child has to endure the same.

We stand together as 5 million mothers demanding accountability and the safety of every child attending educational institutions in this country.
