We're waiting for responses from the Local Education Authority at Newport City Council and the Education Minister at the Welsh Government.
Firstly, many, many thanks for all your support. We are grateful not only for the 95,000 signatures on the petition, but also to the thousands of people who have shared the petition with their friends and contacts. Thank you also for all the messages of support and the suggestions. The support that you have given to Alfie is just breath-taking and we couldn't be more grateful.
Due to your spectacular response, people with relevant skills and experience have been in touch, and there still may be a way forward for Alfie. It would however be much easier with the support of the Local Education Authority.
We understand that things go wrong, that happens to all of us. If the Local Education Authority were to accept that there may be issues, with the process and the appeal, and to agree to try and find a way to re-run the appeal (or give Alfie a place), we would have no problem with the Local Education Authority.
We have written to the Director of Education at Newport City Council who we understand has been on leave, pointing out where we say things have gone wrong.
We have a letter from the Local Education Authority which suggests that there may after all be a possible solution if the Local Education Authority accept that there was an issue with the appeal or the process. We're not clear about how that works and have asked for clarification.
