Hello again everyone,
Wednesday marked the end of our first year as a consolidated nonprofit.
A year ago, we were representing 17 Afghan families, scrambling to find a way to help them survive the winter. We now represent the entirety of the NMRG program, aiding more than 300 families, while also seeking to reform the Special Immigrant Visa process. A year ago, we didn’t have the platform to get people to listen. Now, our message has made it to the Secretary of State.
I do not tout our progress out of vanity; like everything else Afghanistan-related, the odds are stacked against those under our care. I also do not wish to mask the tribulations of the past year; the arrests and torture, the assassinations, the forced triaging of a cancer victim because we had insufficient funds to spread around.
I tout our successes because in the 15 months since Kabul fell, I firmly believe that no other organization has the potential that we do. I can’t count how many NGOs have collapsed, or how many volunteers have understandably had to step back in the face of the strain of the last year. Not us: we’re thriving. We are a tiny organization, and yet, it is us who are collaborating in depth with an Oscar frontrunner, planning a DC screening of NatGeo’s Retrograde, while also still pulling our people out of Afghanistan.
On giving Tuesday, I ask that you consider us for your donations. I’ve made it a point of emphasis from our inception that every person we aid was a direct partner to US Army Green Berets, that we personally know the recipients of every cent. Nothing about that has changed: donations go directly to the recipients, and we still don’t use intermediates.
We have made enormous strides in the past months, but those who continue to serve have a long and exhausting road still ahead. It is your donations that will see them through to the end. The Giving Fund is our preferred method of donation, as there are no fees collected. We are also active on GoFundMe.
All donation methods can be reviewed at our website: https://www.nmrg-rescue.org/
Thank you all for your continued support, and I promise that we will have more successes to report in the coming months.
Tom
