ELDERLY IMMIGRANT PARK SLOPE HOMEOWNER IN DANGER OF BEING EVICTED!

YOUR INVOLVEMENT IS NEEDED!

We are asking that you please sign this petition so that the appropriate officials take an in depth look as to how Mr. Ray Cortez, who resides at 91 St. Marks Place Brooklyn NY 11217, lost his property in a dubious foreclosure sale and is now in danger of being evicted from his home of fifty-four years.

Mr. Cortez has been a staple of the neighborhood since 1969 when he and his wife acquired their property through hard work and sacrifice. They raised their children there. They made their home there.

In 2006, Mr. Cortez had an unfortunate encounter with a career convicted criminal, Wilson Calle, who swindled him into turning the deed of his home over to him. Immediately after obtaining said deed, Wilson Calle obtained a $700,000 mortgage loan unbeknownst to Mr. Cortez. Since then Mr. Cortez ran into a series of events that made matters worse. His limited legal knowledge, who to reach out to for help, the embarrassment of falling for such a con, combined with a deteriorating mental state complicated things even further. The original attorney hired by the family ended up making a colossal mistake that capped this tragic event off. Unsurprisingly the bank that gave Wilson Calle this loan (WELLS FARGO!!!) did not do it's due diligence in making sure the deed, transfer and sale were clean before selling it off in foreclosure. Wilson Calle and his criminal cohorts remain unaccountable for this crime. Well Fargo got their loan money and interest when the property was sold. The only one that lost out on all this is Mr Cortez.

Throughout all these years Mr. Cortez has been a role model of a neighbor, always friendly, polite and helpful. For those of us who know him, the news of him losing his home in such a criminal manner has saddened and angered us. This is why we, members of the community along with The South Brooklyn Tenant / Carroll Gardens Associations and Brooklyn Eviction Defense, are coming together to support him in this fight so that justice may prevail.

Mr. Cortez’ dilemma is yet another example of how hard-working, elderly immigrant homeowners are being swindled by career criminal vultures in our communities. Mr. Calle and his associates preyed upon Mr. Cortez, and other victims, by appealing to their religious nature, passing themselves off as religious leaders of fake ministries.

Please sign this petition in order to demand from those who hold the power and authority to not only stop Mr. Cortez’ eviction, but that they also reopen and rehear the original fraud case. We can never allow decent members of our communities, like Mr. Cortez, to lose that for which they have worked and sacrificed so hard. Justice must prevail!
