Justice for 13-Year-Old Master Nkansah and the People of Adelekεzo

Hold Illegal Miners, Security Operatives, and Complicit Officials Accountable

Petition by: Ghana Environmental Advocacy Group (GEAG)

A 13-year-old boy, Master Pious Nketia (Pious Nkansah), was shot and killed in Adelekεzo.
His family still has no answers.
His community is still living in fear.
And those responsible for illegal mining and violence continue to walk free.

We cannot stay silent.

What Happened in Adelekεzo?
1. Illegal Mining Began Without Approval
Between August and September 2025, JAS Mining Company—working with several foreign nationals—began mining in Adelekεzo without any publicly verifiable mineral lease. The community’s farmlands were destroyed and their water sources polluted.

2. Officials Released Arrested Suspects Without Transparency
When the Municipal Chief Executive visited the site, several foreign nationals were arrested. But they were quickly released based on claims of a mysterious “executive authorization” that has never been publicly clarified. The community felt abandoned by the very institutions meant to protect them.

3. A Child Was Shot and Killed
On Saturday, December 13, 2025, during a confrontation between community members and mining actors, 13-year-old Master Nkansah was shot and killed.
Eyewitnesses say the shooter was part of the mining company’s armed private security.

A child was killed—yet to this day, no one has been held accountable.

4. Instead of Justice, the Victims Were Arrested
After the killing, six youth—including three minors—were arrested for allegedly destroying mining equipment. As the community mourned, the State moved faster to protect machines than to protect Ghanaian lives.

5. Charges Against the Mining Company Were Withdrawn
On 5 February 2026, the Attorney-General withdrew all charges, claiming inadequate evidence due to gaps in the police docket.
All suspects were discharged.
The case was closed.
Justice was denied.

Why This Matters
Adelekεzo is a small community—but it represents a bigger national crisis:
illegal mining, abuse of power, environmental destruction, and systemic injustice.

If a Ghanaian child can be killed without accountability, then no community is safe.

We Demand Immediate Action
We call on the Inspector-General of Police, the Attorney-General, and the President of Ghana to:

✔ Reopen and independently review the entire case
Including police investigations and prosecutorial decisions.

✔ Hold all implicated police officers accountable
Where misconduct, negligence, or cover-up is found.

✔ Reinvestigate the killing of Master Nkansah
With independent oversight and homicide specialists.

✔ Provide support and protection for the bereaved family and witnesses
Including counselling and security where needed.

✔ Enforce Ghana’s mining and environmental laws without fear or favour
So no other community suffers what Adelekεzo has endured.

Why We Need Your Signature
Adelekεzo is crying out for justice—but their voices alone are not enough.

Your signature tells Ghana’s leaders:
We will not ignore a child’s death.
We will not tolerate illegal mining.
We will not allow impunity to rule.

Together, we can demand justice, accountability, and dignity for Master Nkansah and his community.

Sign and share this petition. Let justice rise where silence has prevailed.
