Justice for 1158 Punjab Assistant Professors: Give Relief, Not Punishment

Justice for 1158 Punjab Assistant Professors: Give Relief, Not Punishment
The Issue
I am not a professor. I am not a lawyer. I’m just a concerned student of Punjab.
In July 2025, the Supreme Court of India quashed the appointments of 1,158 Assistant Professors and Librarians in Punjab. These teachers had been serving in government colleges, teaching students with full dedication, and holding on to hope that their hard-earned jobs were finally secure.
But now, their jobs are gone.
The court ruled that the recruitment process in 2021–22 was flawed—not because the teachers were unqualified, but because the government bypassed PPSC, ignored UGC norms, and failed to follow the proper legal steps.
And yet… the people who are being punished are not the system.
It’s the teachers.
Also, here's the reality. These permanent posts were released after a long wait of 25 years. UGC norms were very well followed and this was one of the cleanest and the most fair recruitments in Punjab's higher education history. No corruption, no lobbying, no backdoor entries.
These Professors had:
- Proper degrees
- Years of teaching experience
- Passed written exams and fulfilled all the eligibility criteria
Most of them left other jobs. Many of them were already working for over a year in permanent posts. They had appointment letters, ID cards, salaries, and students who relied on them.
They were not at fault.
And now? They’re back at zero—without income, without clarity, and without justice.
🛑 We are asking the Punjab Government and Higher Education Department:
1. To meet the demands of these 1158 assistant professors and librarians at the earliest.
2. To acknowledge the year(s) of service already completed
3. To ensure that this injustice is not repeated in future recruitments
Let’s not forget—these teachers didn’t cheat the system.
The system failed them.
📢 If this happened to your teacher, your mentor, or your friend—wouldn’t you want their voice to be heard?
I’m just trying to be that voice.
Please support this petition so that the 1158 Assistant Professors of Punjab are not forgotten—and their dignity, careers, and lives are not erased by one flawed process.
