On days 69th and 70th of my 4th Hunger Strike outside the UNHCR office in Athens, Greece respectively on Thursday and Friday last week I had once again sought to reach the organization in order to plea for urgent humanitarian assistance for my survival and also to demand an immediate end to this ongoing Hostage taking and my complete deprivation in Greece.
On Thursday I caught the receptionist at the door while he was heading inside the building after finishing his cigarette.
“Hey! One minute. I would like to speak with the UNHCR. I have no water. I have no food. I have no cash. I need to speak with the High Commissioner’s representative in Greece, Maria Clara Martin and I need to leave this country urgently.” Please tell them now and get back to me to let me know what they said.
“Okay, I will.” He replied.
The people from the reception rarely listen to me and most of the time they just close the doors and call the Police. But this time, the guy who was new on this shift, politely took my message and also seemed to have transferred it the UNHCR afterwards.
Because he came back shortly to let me know “UNHCR has advised him to tell me to send them an email instead.” This is despite the fact that over these many years of this ongoing atrocity in Greece I have sent them hundreds of emails most of which have remained unanswered.
So I informed the receptionist about those facts and repeated my earlier messages to him to be told to the UNHCR again. He said he will transfer it again, but he could not do anything further.
“I am not expecting you to do anything more. Just transfer the message.” I told him.
As I was sitting beside my Banner, he came back two other times, but didn't have anything else to say other than what he already told me earlier.
Shortly after I saw one of the familiar employees of the UNHCR exiting the building, probably to get food for lunch. I approached him to speak to him, but he was disrespectfully pushing me around without even listening to me. At some point it seemed he was enjoying my suffering and was even laughing at me.
But despite everything, I tried telling him what I have already asked the receptionist to transfer to the UNHCR. However, the guy continued pushing me from one side to another side without ever listening to me till he got to the next street where I couldn't follow him any longer.
Shortly after I returned to my banner, I saw another employee of the organization walking into the building. This time a female employee. But as I approached and tried to communicate with her, she told me that she would be transferring my message to the guard.
“Why to the guard? Tell the responsible people at the UNHCR. Aren't you from them?” I asked.
At this point she said she would be speaking to them. She said that without answering my questions.
The next day, the guy at the reception was one of those fascist people, so he neither opened the door nor did he take my message. Instead, it seemed he was placing a call to the Police again right away like what he did the last time. But I didn't see the Police coming afterwards.
While sitting beside my Banner, I saw two employees of the UNHCR walking back to the building after shopping from the adjacent supermarket.
I tried speaking to them too. But they also didn’t stop. One of them who was the guy from the other time, said “He is not the representative in Greece. But I would be speaking with her.” without specifying when exactly, before getting inside the building.
The day was over and I didn't see neither the High Commissioner’s representative nor anyone else from the UNHCR to come outside and attend to this matter.
So this was it again for several other of my ongoing attempts in reaching out to the UNHCR office during this 8-years long Hostage taking and my complete deprivation in Greece which you read about and saw how they responded.
Please spread the word, sign my online Petition now and donate if you can. At this point my survival literally depends on your support.
Both of the campaigns are pinned to both my page and group on Facebook.
Thank you for your solidarity and support.
Yours Respectfully,
