At the entrance of the Australian Embassy where I went again on Thursday, June 10th, 2021, in pursuit of seeking help for resolving my dire situation in Greece, the Police arrived to the scene immediately after I set my Banner up.
Although this was entirely a peaceful assembly in the public area adjacent to the premises of the Australian Embassy, yet, still I was not allowed to stay there and the Police had taken me to the Police Station where they held me captive for over two hours before I was being let go again.
At the Syntagma Police Station however, where I was taken to, I had a series of unpleasant and hurtful encounters with one of the fascist Police Officers on duty there.
On my arrival, before sending me to the waiting room, the said Police Officer had demanded access to my phone, which was being denied to him. Consequently, he lost his way and began punching me in the head. If I recall it correctly, he did so on two OR three occasions.
Although there were several other Police Officers from both genders present in the office and witnessed what was happening, but nobody said OR did anything. As if the fascist one was doing that on behalf of the rest of them. Immediately after, as the same fascist Police puts me in the waiting room, he tells me “Go back to your country. Why you came here”.
Due to yesterday’s rain, last night I had nowhere to seek shelter at and therefore basically I hadn’t had any sleep. In fact, until 3:00 to 4:00 AM, I was still working on finishing the editing and publishing the videos of my visit to the Canadian Embassy from two days earlier.
Which is why at the Police Station I was so very tired and exhausted. Hence, I tried to get some rest there while still in Custody at the Police Station. In the waiting room, where they put me, there was some kind of seat with a mattress on it, something similar to a couch. I decided to lay down there and get some rest until they determine whether let go of me OR to hold me there.
But as soon as I laid down there, the officer who had assaulted me earlier, rushed in and while kicking my legs, forced me to sit in another seat, which had no mattress on it. A wooden seat, but basically was no different from a flat concrete slab.
When I asked why he was doing that, he didn’t answer, as if rather than the Police, whose job is supposedly to protect people, I was dealing with a vindictive person who had misplaced his grudge on a defenseless person.
However what made the incident more painful to tolerate was the fact that he was shamelessly with the rest of the other officers laughing and making fun of what had happened. As if I had no rights whatsoever, but only a slave. Someone they would treat as they please.
This is becoming a repeated experience for the past 7-hellish years. From one Police Station to another Police Station where they are without any grounds OR whatsoever assaulting me again and again. I had been assaulted by the Police again just last week while trying to seek help from the American Embassy.
I have several complaints before the Greek Ombudsman regarding a number of the previous assaults by the Police and their unjustified aggression. But after so many years of experience with the Greek Ombudsman as well, I could tell you by now that their mindset is no different from that of the Greek Police.
Hence, for someone in my situation and in a place like this, justice will never be served. This is one of the very reasons why I fear for my life, my safety and well-being in this country.
Nothing like this should happen to anyone, anywhere and no one should be put through a situation like this.
This is a dire emergency. Please do not be indifferent and ignorant to what is happening here and take action now.
