Justice against sexual assault in a leading educational institute of India

The Issue

Trust is broken. Trust of a student for feeling safe in her educational institution. For feeling safe in her country. For feeling 'free' in her country.

Her country which boasts of so many achievements, of so many milestones, of being the largest democracy in the world, yet fails to keep her women feel safe?

Fails to teach her men how to respect women? Fails to teach her people to raise their voice against such brutal injustice?

And who is to blame? The 3 men, who masked in the darkness of the night, committed the henious crime of harassing a 20 something old in her own educational institute?

Or the administration and the police who committed false promises but to no conclusive action yet?

Or maybe those who found this to be the right opportunity to play politics and get their own personal agendas passed, least concerned about the girl or justice to her.

Or maybe all of us who saw, read, talked and FORGOT.

All of us who would have marched with candles or expressed dissent with the government, but only if it had been a rape case? Anything less is a routine which perhaps doesn't warrant any action? Who is to blame?

And Trust is at stake. Not only of the girl, but of every citizen who believed that our country will do the right thing, no matter what. Our country which is made by you, me, the administration, the political parties and the citizens who have even a glimmer of morality left. This concerns all of us - irrespective of our affiliations to any institute, city, state or political party.

How do we make it right? We request, we ask, we question until the culprits are caught, punished, made to apologize to the girl and to the nation. Until the girl feels safe again. Until she trusts again, and with her, we trust again. 'We' - we who make this country.

I urge you to sign this petition and send an appeal to the police and administration to serve justice to the girl. To request the honourable Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, and the Prime Minister of our country to save our trust in the system and make our women feel proud and safe again.
