OPERATION STOMPSyosset, NY, United States
Nov 10, 2015
A reminder the Town of Oyster Bay will be holding PUBLIC HEARING at 7:00 PM TONIGHT, Tuesday, November 10, at the TOB Town Hall in Oyster Bay, to review legislation to implement weight and height restrictions on S. Oyster Bay Road--this legislation would prohibit oversized, freight-based trucks reaching 60 - 90 feet in length, from traversing on this roadway lined with homes, a school zone, Our Lady of Mercy School, and religious institutions. The meeting will be held at Town Hall, 54 Audrey Avenue, Oyster Bay, NY, 11771. An unpublicized change was approved late last year, after all of the trees on this roadway had been senselessly destroyed, to deem S. Oyster Bay Road an "access highway," accommodating 53' - 90' trucks, tandem trucks, construction vehicles, and car carriers (up to 90' in length) to travel on this roadway. This change without community input or notice has resulted in a dangerous, tremendous influx of oversized, heavy, polluting trucks in our local region, including adjoining County Roads and nearby local roads, comprising public safety and resident health. We encourage all members to attend this evening in support, publicly comment, share stories about your concerns, including any recent dangerous encounters you have experienced with oversized, freight-based truck travel. These trucks have been observed traveling illegally on many County Roads adjoining and nearby, including Woodbury Road, Old Country Road, Manetto Hill Road, Round Swamp, Jackson Avenue, Old Bethpage Road, Haypath Road, Jerusalem Avenue, Merrick Road, Merrick Avenue, Franklin Avenue, and so many more of our County Roads residential in nature. This meeting and legislation is a critical step in addressing the public health and public safety hazards present on our local roadways as a result of this recent unpublicized change. Please remind friends, family, neighbors about the meeting this evening. If you are unable to attend, please send correspondence of concern to all of your local Legislators and Town Council members, e-mail addresses and contact information listed on our linked website page. Thank you for your continued support as we work to ensure community public safety is of upmost importance and upheld by our local leaders, and, further, to promote tree preservation and substantial tree planting efforts County-wide. Lastly, we also wanted to sincerely thank all of our members who STOMPed to the polls last week in a meaningful effort to effect change County-wide. Many races were extremely competitive, many of our endorsed candidates were (re)elected, and we look forward to working with these individuals and leaders going forward to protect, preserve, and increase our County's greenery. Contact us at OperationSTOMP@gmail.com, if you have any questions or require any additional information. Have a wonderful day and hope to see you this evening. - All of us at Operation STOMP
