In the 2024 North Carolina Supreme Court election, Justice Allison Riggs secured a narrow victory over Judge Jefferson Griffin by 734 votes out of more than 5.5 million cast. This outcome was confirmed through multiple recounts and upheld by the State Board of Elections and a Wake County Superior Court judge.

Despite these confirmations, Judge Griffin has persistently challenged the results, seeking to disqualify over 60,000 ballots—many from long-standing voters and overseas citizens—based on technicalities such as missing identification numbers. 

These efforts have been widely criticized as attempts to retroactively alter election rules and disenfranchise lawful voters.

A coalition of over 200 North Carolina legal professionals, including former justices and judges, has urged Judge Griffin to end his legal challenges, emphasizing that his actions threaten public confidence in the judicial system.
