Vehicular freedom for drivers of both EVs and ICEs

Vehicular freedom for drivers of both EVs and ICEs
The Issue
- There has been a lot of talk these past few years about climate change and global warming, and ways we can stop it or at least slow it down. Many people, such as Joe Biden, consider it to be the biggest threat to our nation and our world, and many instead see it as a political scheme. Either way, the climate has had a big influence in the decisions made by not just the US government but also the other governments of the world.
Since the beginning of his presidency, Joe Biden has taken a firm stance against oil and gasoline, with increasing prices at the pump and higher regulations on auto makers regarding emissions and fuel economy. These regulations are causing companies such as Dodge to cease production of their widely loved cars, the Hellcat for example in 2023.
Yes it’s clear Biden does not like engines, despite the gas guzzling classic Corvette he still owns.
Instead Biden has taken a liking to electric vehicles, having already publicly test driven a few upcoming ones and including major investments in EV infrastructure in his “Build Back Better” bill.
I’m not here to discuss whether EVs truly are or aren’t cleaner for the environment, but they will likely become a major force on the road, seeing as multiple states and countries are already seeking bans on the sale of new combustion engine vehicles by 2030 or 2035.
At that rate, it seems like access to fuel and oil may become restricted and the ability to register and drive a combustion engine vehicle may even be legally limited in the coming years. This sounds good on paper, and it perhaps could help to slow climate change, but there’s a problem.
Millions of Americans are obsessed with engines. From classic car owners, to muscle car owners, to truckers, people simply won’t just give up their right to drive the cars they love, and won’t want to spend the large amount of money to convert them into what many view as boring, quiet electric powertrains either.
In particular, young people, who will run this country by 2030 or 2050 long after politicians like Joe Biden are old or have passed away, who are being raised by engine enthusiasts, are worried about the future of their hobby. Bans on things such as the registration for new and old combustion engine vehicles and harsh limits on access to fuel, oil, and other needed fluids through laws or heavy taxes will completely deny this large community the right to practice the hobby they love.
How are we the “Land of the Free” if we wish to deny a community of millions the right to do something as simple as drive their vehicles and get things such as gas and oil for them? Sure, electric cars are fast and fun for many people, but for engine enthusiasts they simply don’t provide things such as the sound, smell, and ability to tinker and upgrade like engines do.
I’m starting this petition on behalf of the millions of old and young engine enthusiasts who wish to simply practice our hobby, and also on behalf of small businesses who rely on combustion engines, such as most auto parts stores, oil change shops, and mechanics.
So here is what I want. I want politicians like Joe Biden (again, a classic car owner himself), senators and representatives, and even state governors, to enact whatever bills, acts, laws, or whatever is needed to ensure that while electric vehicles are supported and their infrastructure continues to grow, the interests of engine enthusiasts are protected at least to an extent.
This includes protecting access to things such as gasoline, diesel, oil, coolant and other fluids, filters, and parts. It also includes ensuring that we can continue to do things as simple as registering our combustion engine vehicles to drive on at least most roads, preferably all.
Now of course, I’m not just trying to be a jerk and neglect the earth. We engine users are humans who live here too and we don’t use our machines for the purpose of destroying our planet, as some may have you think. This is why we also want to ask Biden to help fund development of clean fuel projects, such as that which companies like Porsche, Siemens Energy, Exxon, Audi, and HIF are working on with eFuel, a much cleaner to make and burn fuel that works for engines. With support from our nation and world’s political leaders, we can make these fuels cheaper, readily available in large quantities, and overcome the small obstacles we still face to make them ready for consumer use. That way, we can continue to use engines with a much lower environmental impact, alongside EVs of course.
I believe that we can pave the way for a future where electric car owners and combustion engine owners can both use their machines affordably, practically, reliably, and in a carbon neutral way. Please consider signing my petition so we can get it to politicians who can do something about this. Thank you.
