No James Braddock Park Diversion

No James Braddock Park Diversion
The Issue
The North Bergen Preschool has been located in old trailers within the James Braddock Park for the past 20+ years, despite the intial promises from town officials that they would only be there temporarily. If North Bergen continues to not be held accountable to move out, they may someday replace the trailers with a permanent structure (they applied to divert the parkland in the past).
The Preschool has been in Braddock park for over 20 years so why should you care?
- Braddock Park is 1 of only 2 large parks in Hudson County, a county with way too little park land, according to the Hudson County Master plan. Braddock Park should not be fragmented and developed with schools, condos, etc. - it should remain intact for recreation and open space use.
- Trees and vegetation in parks can help reduce air pollution both by directly removing pollutants and by reducing air temperatures and building energy use in and near parks.
- Studies show that green spaces can have a protective effect on our mental well-being. We’re quicker to recover from stress, and less likely to experience depression. Kids grow up with fewer psychiatric problems.
