Sanitary products are considered by the government to be luxury non-essential items, and are therefore taxed at 15%. 

We’re pretty sure that 1.7 million New Zealand women don’t choose to menstruate, nor do they choose to have this "luxury" for about 35 years of their life.  We do know that Oi women want the protection and comfort they deserve to safely manage their periods, so women end up paying about $17 million extra in tax for this privilege annually. Are we missing something here? Isn’t this socially and economically unfair?

We believe that women's sanitary products should be reclassified as essential health care items and be GST free. 

Oi is about small changes making a big difference in our world. This tax has been around since GST began, so we’re petitioning the current Government to change the legislation. The more voices the better.
