Pada hari ulang tahun ke-73 Polisi Wanita, tepatnya pada tanggal 1 September 2021, saya mendapat kehormatan menjadi bagian konferensi pers berjudul, “Pengapusan ‘Tes Keperawanan’ Angkatan Bersenjata: Kemenangan untuk Perempuan?”. Acara virtual ini tidak akan mungkin tanpa Anda. Walaupun Change.org Indonesia menjadi tertarik dengan petisi ini karena pengumuman kemenangannya, pihak mereka juga mengakui bahwa jumlah penandatangan petisi ini signifikan.
Saya sangat senang saat bertemu dengan Change.org untuk merencanakan konferensi pers ini. Pertama, fakta bahwa Change.org sedia dan menawarkan untuk membantu kampanye ini membuat saya yakin bahwa platform ini kredibel. Kedua, konferensi ini menjadi kesempatan untuk mengundang beberapa figur yang telah lama kerja keras untuk gerakan ini (secara langsung maupun tidak langsung). Terakhir, ada harapan bahwa liputan media tambahan dan kelanjutan diskusi bisa menekan TNI-AD, AL, dan AU untuk betul-betul menghapus “tes keperawanan”.
Sekarang ada puluhan artikel serta beberapa video baru tentang isu ini. Mata saya betul berair saat mendengar Dr. Robbi Wicaksono berkata, “Berita tentang penghapusan tes keperawanan oleh pihak TNI merupakan sebuah kemajuan kemanusiaan yang luar biasa,” dalam sebuah wawancara CNN (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tO9UD2H6v5s Hal ini dikarenakan video-video seperti ini mengindikasikan bahwa #stopvirginitytestsID telah membuat ombak. Ombak yang bisa ditangkap dayanya oleh gerakan-gerakan lain.
Dengan kata lain, upaya-upaya untuk kesetaraan gender, kemajuan sains, dan perlindungan HAM di Indonesia tidak akan berhenti disini berkat Anda. Terima kasih banyak atas dukungannya. Semoga Anda akan terus menandatangi petisi-petisi yang Anda setujui.

On the 73rd anniversary of the creation of Indonesia’s female police force, which fell on September 1st 2021, I had the honor of partaking in a press conference titled, “Abolishment of Military ‘Virginity Testing’: A Victory for Women?”. This virtual event would not have been possible without you. Though Change.org Indonesia was interested in this petition because it was declared victorious, the significant number of signatures it garnered also caught their attention.
I was very excited when I met with Change.org to plan this conference. First of all, the fact that Change.org is willing and offered to help one of their campaigns made the platform more credible in my eyes. Second, it was an opportunity to bring together some figures who had been working on this issue for a long time (be it directly or indirectly). Lastly, there was hope that added media coverage and continuation of public discourse on this topic would pressure the Indonesian Army, Navy, and Air Force to commit to abolishing “virginity testing”.
Now there are dozens of articles as well as a few new videos on the issue. My eyes truly watered when I watched Dr. Robbi Wicaksono say, “News that the Indonesian military is abolishing virginity testing is a step forward for humanity,” in a CNN interview (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tO9UD2H6v5s It touched me because videos like this indicate that #stopvirginitytestsID was able to create waves. Waves whose energy can be captured by other movements.
In other words, efforts for gender equality, the progression of science, and protection of human rights in Indonesia will not stop here thanks to you. Thank you very much for supporting this movement. I hope you will continue signing other petitions that call to you.
