Moms of Skaneateles Demanding the Firing of Steve Musso for the Well-Being of Our Children
The Issue
If you share our concern for the children and future of Skaneateles Schools – we need your help by making your voice heard:
Perhaps without the School Board's awareness, the anti-student actions of Steve Musso (the "Director of Student Wellness, Activities, and Athletics") have gone unchecked, and continue to worsen. Accordingly, the community must take action now.
This broad group of concerned Skaneateles School District Mothers is disturbed by the continued and needless anti-student actions, incompetency, and divisive behavior of the current Director, Steve Musso.
While this petition is organized by Moms, we encourage EVERYONE concerned to sign – so we can, together, solve a serious problem on behalf of our community’s students.
This is critical not only for current students, but also for future students and their parents.
Approximately three years ago, the District created the position of “Director of Student Wellness, Activities, and Athletics.” This description was taken directly from Skaneateles Schools Website:
- "The Director of Student Wellness, Activities and Athletics joined the Skaneateles District in July 2017 and has worked diligently as an advocate for excellent student opportunities in extracurricular clubs and athletics that support the positive growth of our kids."
We wish this description met reality. But, unfortunately, at a time when we need staff to help our students, we instead have suffered through Steve Musso, whose work continues to harm and stifle them.
Perhaps without the School Board’s knowledge, Steve Musso has repeatedly taken anti-student actions, which continue to worsen. Always overreaching, always punitive, always causing discord - Musso has caused needless turmoil for our students, parents, activities advisors, and coaches.
That is why us Mothers, and ALL citizens concerned for our kids, are taking action NOW.
Additionally, during these challenging fiscal times, it is wholly irresponsible of the District (and Board) to make taxpayers fund a position that has delivered significant anguish for students, parents, and the District as a whole. The responsibilities of this position were previously handled with ease through a part-time Athletic Director. These duties were performed peacefully, productively, and actually supported our kids. Instead, taxpayers now spend tens of thousands more - while our children are harmed. This must stop; and it must stop now.
As Mothers of children in this District, we simply cannot allow continued anti-student behavior without taking action.
For the well-being of our children, who have precious school time remaining, and on behalf of all future Skaneateles students and their parents, we request that the “Director of Student Wellness, Activities, and Athletics” position be immediately eliminated - and that an interim part-time Athletic Director be swiftly appointed.
We CAN make a difference; and we must. Please join our efforts, and sign this petition to support our kids!
