On May 29th 2021, around 11:05 pm, while my seventeen year old and I were sitting in our living room watching a movie, a gunfire occurred on West Hemlock Street near Victoria Ave., there was a total of six loud gunshots, one of the bullets perforated our living room window where my child was sitting. I screamed go down and while she was on the floor she realized she had shattered glass on her hair. We were both in shock even more after we saw the window, wall and closet bullet perforation. If my daughter would of been sitting closer to where the bullet entered the bullet would of instantly kill her.  I called 911 immediately, and an officer took our information. This type of incidents happen in this area more frequently than we are actually aware of. I am truly grateful to God and her guardian angel for keeping her alive. As you can imagine this incident has taken away my peace entirely. In the adjacent bedrooms I have an eleven year old and a three year old whom in my perspective all were at high risk of loosing their lives that night. As a parent this is been a truly horrifying living experience and I wish no one to ever go through something like this again. I’m currently dealing with the aftermath of this incident which is not just limited to window replacement and safety but a long term side effect of mental health issues. My daughter has already started trauma therapy as she is experiencing high stress and anxiety. How do I explain to my children what has happened? As you can imagine, this is a very high price to pay for being hard working mom whom all I want is to enjoy a peaceful night with my children after a long stressful week. My area needs urgently cameras, more frequent police patrolling, signage and better lighting. Please help me keep my children safe, my neighbors and my community!
