Dante Arthurs will once again be due for parole in May of this year, 2025.

On November 7 of 2007, Arthurs was sentenced to life imprisonment, with a non-parole period of 13 years for the murder of 8 year old Sofia Rodriguez Urrutia-Shu.

His was a crime which rocked our nation and changed the laws surrounding Murder in Western Australia. Legislation was changed to ensure no-one would ever face such a manifestly inadequate sentence for such a terrible crime.

As of June this year, Arthurs will be commencing his 19th year in prison. He was refused parole in 2019 and again in 2022. This petition was a contributing factor to his non-release.

During his sentencing in 2007, Justice John McKechnie cautioned Arthurs' there was a very strong likelihood he would never be released. This petition supports that statement and conclusion.
