Do Not Release Dante Arthurs

Do Not Release Dante Arthurs
The issue
On the 26th of June 2006, Dante Arthurs forever changed the life of a Perth family and stunned the Western Australian community. He murdered 8 year old Sofia Rodriguez at a Canning Vale shopping centre, in a crime which sent shock-waves across the country.
In 2022, Sofia would have been celebrating her 24th birthday and should have been enjoying her life and following her dreams. However, her future was brutally and deliberately taken from her.
In June of 2022, Dante Arthurs will once again be eligible for release back into the community.
In 2007, Arthur's was sentenced to Life Imprisonment (20 years), with a non-parole period of 13 years! At the time, Arthur's sentence was was nationally condemned as being manifestly inadequate. As a result, the laws surrounding murder were changed to include more severe penalty options.
Over the next 6 months, the Western Australian Attorney General John Quigley will receive a statutory report from the Western Australian Prisons Review Board. This will outline the status of Dante Arthur's, as well as recommendations in regard to possible release.
Upon sentencing in 2007, then Attorney General Michael Mischin assured the Western Australia public that, 'it would be unlikely Arthur's would be released on parole'. It is the intention of this petition to ensure that remains the case.
