Legalize Medical Marijuana in Virginia

Legalize Medical Marijuana in Virginia

The Issue

We, the people of the great state of Virginia demand that the Delegates and Senators of the Virginia General Assembly create and pass a bill that will allow medical cannabis to be given to patients who qualify for its use.

  • Twenty-Three states plus Washington D.C. have already legalized medical cannabis with little to no negative effects to their economy.
  • Studies show crime rates drop after medical cannabis becomes available for patients.
  • Polling and studies show that the majority of Virginians would like medical cannabis to become legal.
  • The effects of medical cannabis use are self evident whether it be helping a war veterans depression or simply helping a person who is going through chemotherapy eat due to the lack of appetite.
  • Certain studies show that medical marijuana use can actually discourage harder drug use such as heroin or alcohol and can actually be used to help treat a persons drug habit.
  • Virginians should have access to alternative medicines that will not cause addiction or death yet have the similar effects of pain management drugs.
  • Virginians have the right to a medicine that have little to no adverse effects, in order to help them deal with Severe Depression, Anxiety, Pain, PTSD, Anorexia,  and even the adverse effects of cancer treatment.
  • The tax on the medicine could fund state and local projects such as giving a influx of money to schools to help with their budget, help people who have severe addictions to become non-dependent on those substances, repair roads across the state, or even help the funding and building of parks.
  • The cannabis can help patients who are allergic to their medications seek  alternate treatments for their illnesses.
  • One of the most deadly drugs a person can become addicted to or overdose on are prescription opioid based drugs, which overdoses have continued to increased over the last few years in Virginia.

Medical Cannabis should be a right to the citizens of Virginia who are suffering with illnesses and should not be a outlawed substance.
