Release the Ban on Citizens Giving Food to the Homeless in Denver

The Issue

Charging a Good Samaritan for feeding the homeless punishable by a fine or jail time in Denver?

People say that implementing these laws are because it's more harm than good to feed a homeless person. Or that it's to move the people out of downtown because vagrants are "bad for business". People say "they can go to a soup kitchen" or "go to a homeless shelter". The reasons listed are not good reasons to deny someone who has a meal to share the right to give it to whomever needs it. Shelters simply do not have the room, nor do soup kitchens. I read somewhere that for every 100 homeless people there is 26 openings in a shelter.

As for the other two reasons- how is that a reason to starve a person? If it were you on the streets wouldn't you want something to eat? People cannot get back on their feet of they starve to death. Fight for human rights, these are people in the streets. Let's abolish this law. After all, isn't it your business in what you want to invest your money in? Since when did sharing food become a crime?

People are homeless because of shortage of jobs, unaffordable housing, and mental handicaps. Not because someone had a sandwich to spare.
