Dear Sir. As a resident of Green Lane ,Ford for in excess of thirty years, I have observed the continuous encroachment of new development both on the airfield and in Ford itself with dismay, first the new housing in what became Norton Drive, then the infilling ex MOD land along Merryfield Road and what was termed Area C on Green Lane and then further new housing in what became The Steadings. In addition to this the North side of the airfield was developed as a major industrial site with a major housing development on old MOD land off the Portway. My objections to this proposal are as follows: 1.Ford grew from a Rural Linear Settlement to what it is today within no amenities to what is expected of a normal village, it has neither a public house or a village shop and only a very infrequent bus service making vehicle ownership essential This proposal does not bring any benefits but only puts additional pressure on the already overstretched resources while nearly doubling the existing population. 2.An additional 470 houses would introduce at least the same number of private motor vehicles, but possibly double that number with the only access in and out of Ford on to the Roman road a much abused lane commonly used daily as a ‘rat run’ between the A345 Amesbury/Salisbury road and the A36 Southampton road at Petersfinger by those motorists trying to avoid the normal morning and evening Salisbury traffic congestion. 3.The proposed new development shows its access to and from the site from the south but does not close the the original route of the airfield perimeter metalled road which has access to green lane which in turn leads to a road junction joining the Roman road which has very poor visibility and access.
