Banks in the UK can close or freeze the account of innocent people for any reason and don’t even have to tell you why.

My account at Starling was closed with no warning (30 days notice given but payments in and out frozen which means the account is in effect closed!).

I know this is a problem for a lot of people with all the high street & online banks so I’d like to see a change in the law to prevent banks from doing this.

Personally I’ve been left with zero money - and I’ve told Starling this and they do not care. I’ve rent and bills to pay - payments coming into the account are bouncing back. I cannot access any of my money coming in. I am going to have to rely on friends and family to buy food until my new account is set up and I’m very lucky for that to be an option. Many vulnerable people have no one to turn to and if their account is closed without warning it can have a devastating effect on their lives or even be the final straw.

Banks are supposed to give you time to set up an new banking facility but it seems the banks do as they please with no recourse. If you’re tired of seeing the banks get away with whatever they like sign for a change in the law. They are literally playing with peoples lives.

People deserve better than this.
