Yesterday, police forces in riot gear, armed with mine-resistant ambush protected military vehicles (MRAPs), a sound cannon, an armored truck and a bulldozer forcibly removed and arrested at least 140 water protectors to clear away a camp and make way for pipeline construction. Some of us were there – the above photo is of Jasilyn, who has been part of this campaign since the beginning and was maced. Those of us are traveling to spread the word about our movement live with our hearts in our throats, knowing that our loved ones are in danger, threatened by the people who are supposed to be protecting us. Here is a video from some of us talking about the violence inflicted on water protectors: http://bit.ly/2eE8oV4. We had planned to send you updates on some of the work we are doing to move this campaign forward, but in light of yesterday’s events, those will have to wait. Today we ask for your prayers. We are fighting for a world in which people are more important than pipelines and profit, and where indigenous people are not forced to risk their safety to protect their land, communities, and planet. We don’t know when that world will come about, we just know that we will keep fighting until it does. The Oceti Sakowin Youth Organizers Photo Credit: Adam Alexander Johansson
