Jimmy Buffett Parkway and ALA license plate

Jimmy Buffett Parkway and ALA license plate
The Issue
Jimmy Buffett, well known singer, songwriter, author and waterman spent much of his childhood and teenage years living in Mobile, Alabama. His parents then spent many years living on the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay. His sister, Lucy is well known for her popular restaurant, LuLu’s in Gulf Shores,Alabama.
Jimmy mentioned the area numerous times in his music, in songs such as False Echoes and his well known version of Stars Fell on Alabama. In 2010 he gave a free concert for thousands of people after the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, on the beach, in Gulf Shores, Alabama. The list of connections goes on.
I believe that the State of Alabama should designate all or part of the Battleship Parkway to the Jimmy Buffett Parkway.
This strip of causeway, running from the downtown of the City of Mobile, to Spanish Fort on the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay, would be a great way to acknowledge Jimmy’s years in Mobile. As well as showing respect to his family, who lived both in Mobile and in Baldwin County.
Additionally, an optional Jimmy Buffett themed license plate would be an idea that would generate interest in the Buffett / Alabama connection. It might incorporate the song Stars Fell on Alabama in the design. It could grow to be quite popular in just a few years and would be a great connection with the Buffett fans and the Parrotheads as well.
Please sign this petition, which will be presented to the Alabama Governor’s Office as a public request for these two efforts to acknowledge and celebrate his contributions to the state and the gulf coast.
