If you recently signed this petition having read Caroline Scott’s article in the Good Health section of The Daily Mail yesterday, thank you so much. You join a community of compassionate and caring supporters determined to bring about positive change in diagnosing cancer early through the legislation of Jess’s Law.
We are so grateful to Caroline for her respectful and sensitive approach in recounting what happened to Jess and explaining our campaign. She told me ‘Jess was on my shoulder’ as she wrote it. I call this the ‘Jess effect’ she was/is so easy to love and continues to have a huge impact.
I was pleased to see to see Caroline's piece addressing the increase in cancer cases, in the young, in recent years.
“According to Cancer Research UK (CRUK), the number of ‘early onset’ cases - young people diagnosed with cancer aged 20 - 34 - is the highest in 30 years, with eight of ten cases cases related to the digestive system.”
I would like GPs to bear this in mind when dismissing a patient because ‘they’re too young for cancer’. We may be told that cancer survival rates have nevertheless improved in recent years, however, I feel somewhat sceptical that survival has improved amongst the under 50s…
It was encouraging to see a quote from the Chair of The Royal College of General Practitioners, Professor Kamila Hawthorne, speaking encouragingly about the positive impact Jess’s Law would have in improving earlier cancer diagnosis in Primary Care.
Thank you so much for your continued support, as always.
I keep being told we will succeed in the ratification of Jess’s Law - I hold on to that hope.
